Shawn Richard Veenker was born Sept. 10, 1968, to the late Richard and Alice (Olson) Veenker, in Heron Lake, MN. He lived in Windom until 2018, at which time he became a resident of Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Lakefield, MN. Shawn attended Windom Schools and received an Associate degree from MN West Community & Tech College in Worthington. He worked for 24 years at the Windom Arena. He loved his job and coached various levels of hockey from 1997-2012. He enjoyed being able to coach his niece for several years. Shawn was an avid hockey fan and loved watching, talking, and playing in his youth. He also loved Sprint Cars and spent many of his younger years watching races at Jackson Speedway. Spending time with family was important, especially with his great nephews. Shawn passed away on Aug 3rd at Colonial Manor Nursing Home. Left to cherish Shawn's memory are his stepmother, Kathy Veenker of Windom; sister, Sarah Veenker of Windom; brother, Shane Veenker of Bemidji, MN; niece, Shelby (Dallas Young) Veenker of Windom; and two great nephews, Sailor & Scout Young of Windom. Shawn was preceded in death by his mother and father, Alice & Richard Veenker.
