Shirley Mary (O'Connor) Fisher was born on May 13, 1936, to Francis and Emma (Hartmann) O'Connor in West Bend, Iowa. She grew up in the Catholic faith and was baptized in infancy and confirmed in her youth. She grew up in the Rodman and Whittemore, Iowa areas, where she attended primary school. Her family moved to Estherville, Iowa, where she attended high school and graduated from Estherville High in 1953.

On April 14, 1956, Shirley married William "Bill" Fisher at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Estherville. The marriage was blessed with five children, Cynthia, Steven, David, Paul and Daniel. She was a farm wife who not only took pride in raising her family but was also very active on the farm. Shirley drove the tractors and the combine, and she was one of the few women of her era that took a tractor and wagons to the elevator in town. She enjoyed tending her flower gardens and bird watching. Shirley helped Bill with the award-winning Llamas at local fairs, shows and parades, and she was often the announcer at llama shows for many years.

Shirley was faithful and active in her community. She was involved in church circles in both Iowa and Minnesota, and she served on various church boards. Shirley was the county chairperson for the Easter Seals Pony Express of Iowa for 10 years.

On October 15th, Shirley passed away peacefully at the Good Samaritan Society, Sogge Memorial in Windom, where she had been a resident for several years.
