A Celebration of Life Service for Shirley Hansen, age 94 of Jackson, will be held on Saturday, March 25th at 11:00 a.m., at the LaCanne Family Celebration of Life Center in Jackson. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Jackson.

Shirley Faye Hansen was born on March 20, 1928, to Neal and Irene (Davies) Benson in Jackson, MN. She attended Jackson Public School and graduated in 1946. While in high school, she was active in class plays, one act plays, band, orchestra and was a member of the National Honor Society. Upon graduation, she attended Macalester College and the Minnesota School of Business, where she graduated with a Private Secretarial Degree.

On June 29, 1947, Shirley was united in marriage to Curtis R. Hansen. Shirley was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church and later joined the First Presbyterian Church after marriage where she taught Sunday School and later served as a Deacon. They lived in Jackson for four years while Curt was a lineman for the Rural Electric Association (REA). They then moved to the Middletown farm, where they lived for 53 years. Daughter Julie was born while living in town and two more children, Laurine and Larry were born on the farm. Shirley and Curt were equal partners in their farming operation, and they enjoyed refinishing and repairing antique furniture, gardening, golfing and raising their 3 children.

After retirement, Shirley and Curt purchased a home in Harlingen, Texas where they spent 28 winters, from October to May. While in Texas, they both were volunteer tutors in the HOSTS Program (Help One Student to Succeed). That program helped the students with math and reading. They also enjoyed golfing, dancing, spending time at Padre Island, going to Mexico and hosting visits from their children and relatives.

Shirley's side of the family held an annual NIPP (Neal & Irene Progeny by Procreation) Reunion. Curt was the first President and Shirley was the permeant cheerleader with her silver pompoms performing the "You Ra! Ra!" cheer for the NIPPS.

In 2005, Curt and Shirley sold their acreage and moved into Jackson and purchased a home on Dewey Street. After Curt passed away in 2007, Shirley lived for a time at The Pines Assisted Living Center in Jackson. In July of 2022, Shirley moved down to Keelson Harbour Assisted Living in Spirit Lake, IA. She remained there until passing away peacefully on Monday morning, January 9, 2023, at the age of 94 years.

Shirley is survived by her 3 children, Julie (Cecil) Keepers of Covington, GA; Laurine (Donald) Lusk of Belleville, WI; Larry (Barbara) Hansen of Jackson; 7 grandchildren and 3 step-grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and 10 step-great- grandchildren; and 4 step-great-great-grandchildren and one stepsister, Nancy Sadusky of Jackson; and two sisters-in-law, Ruth Hansen of Ortonville and Lois Hansen of Lagunitas, CA.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Neal & Irene Benson; husband, Curtis Hansen; two brothers, Arnold & David Benson; two sisters, Carol Forsyth & Betty Hevle; two sisters-in-law, Beverly Benson and Myrt Hansen; and four brothers-in-law, Peter, Robert & Harry Hansen and Lyman Hevle.
