Shirley Ann Sawyer was born on October 6, 1930, in Tracy, Minnesota to Chester Egbert Sawyer and Muriel Jeanette (Walker) Sawyer. She had one sister, Betty. In 1940, the family moved to Mankato, Minnesota. Shirley graduated from Mankato High School in the spring of 1948, attended one year of college at St. Olaf in Northfield, Minnesota and then in 1949 she transferred to the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis for two years where she met her future husband, Bruce Lloyd. Shirley married Bruce Walter Lloyd on August 4, 1951, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mankato, Minnesota. After their marriage, Bruce and Shirley lived in Minneapolis where Shirley worked at Marvin Oreck's and did some test baking for International Milling, the company who milled Robinhood flour. In May of 1953, Bruce and Shirley moved to Heron Lake, Minnesota, where they raised their children, Bruce, Peter, and Ellie. In 1968 a cabin was purchased on Fish Lake where Shirley spent 27 summers. She loved the lake and entertaining there. Bruce passed away in April of 1984. Shirley resided in Heron Lake until May of 1985 when she moved to Windom, Minnesota. She lived there until her death on Sunday, August 12, 2012 at the age of 81. Shirley loved her family, spending time at the cabin and with friends. She loved to travel, shop at unique gift stores, dine out and in later years she kept busy crafting, playing cards, quilting, and collecting teddy bears. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Muriel and Chester; sister, Betty; husband, Bruce; and son, Peter. She is survived by her son, Bruce "Bill" Lloyd (Cindy Stevenson) of Yakima, WA; daughter, Ellen "Ellie" (Craig Giese) of Oak Grove, MN; granddaughters, Allison Lloyd and Jill Farber; grandsons, Jason Lloyd and Jamie Stevenson; and great-grandchildren, Allyson and Hunter Farber.
