A Celebration of Life Service for Stanley Larson, age 76, of Windom, will be held Tuesday, December 19th at 11:00 AM at LaCanne Family Celebration of Life Center in Windom, with Pastor Adam Roberts officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Windom. Full military honors will be provided by American Legion Post #206 of Windom.

A time of visitation and gathering will be held on Tuesday, December 19th from 10:00-11:00 AM at the LaCanne Family Celebration of Life Center in Windom.

Stanley Truman Larson was born on December 4, 1947, to Truman and Violet (Schottle) Larson in Windom, Minnesota. He attended Windom Area Schools, graduating with the class of 1966. In 1967, Stan made the choice to enlist in the Marine Corps. He attended the arid and desolate boot camp, Camp Pendleton, in Southern California followed by infantry training and machine gun school. Stan quickly learned that bootcamp was no picnic- with merciless drills and working harder than he had ever worked before.

The grueling training paid off when Stan was deployed to Vietnam. There he was assigned as a machine gun runner, carrying a twenty-four-pound M-16, thirty pounds of ammunition, and his pack through knee-high rice paddies. One unfortunate day on February 29, 1968, during the Battle of Hue, Private Larson was shot. He spent six months in the hospital before being Honorably Discharged and awarded the Purple Heart.

After returning home to Windom, Stan began working at Carter's Texaco. He hauled gravel for Grunewald Gravel and worked part-time for the City of Windom before he retired. Stan was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Lion's Club, along with being a 50-year member of the American Legion Post 206 in Windom. On Tuesdays, you could find Stan at the billiards pool hall. On Fridays at 9:00 PM Coffee Group; the weekends at the Jackson Racetrack; and anytime in between, he would be trapshooting, snowmobiling, or Harley riding.

Stanley Larson passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Stan is survived by his sister, Gloria Larson of Sherburn; three nephews and one niece, Dean Schottle of Oakdale; Sue Schottle of Grand Rapids, Brad Schottle of Oakdale; Randy Schottle of Oakdale; two great nieces and 1 great-nephew, Sara (James) Wages of St. Paul; Adam (Marisa) Schottle of Oakdale; Chelsea Schottle of Grand Rapids; six great-great nephews and one great-great niece, and other relatives and friends.

Stan was preceded in death by his loving parents; and brother Jerry (Janice) Schottle.
