Steven "Stub" Fricke was born on September 23, 1958, in Worthington, Minnesota to Norman and Gladys (Frodermann) Fricke. Steve was baptized on November 9, 1958, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Worthington and later confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church in Round Lake on June 18, 1972. He received his education in Round Lake, graduating with the class of 1976.
On November 14, 1975, Steve was united in marriage to Deborah Thaemlitz in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The next day, they renewed their vows at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield. After marriage, Steve and Deb made their home in Lakefield and were blessed with three children, Mindy, Jeremy and Tiffany. Since 1983, Steve was a heavy equipment operator for several different companies, with his most recent employer being MPM (Minnesota Paving and Material). Steve entered hospice care in March where he passed away peacefully in his home with his family at his side, on Friday March 18, 2022, at the age of 63 years.
Steve had many enjoyments in life, which all centered around family - helping the kids with home improvement projects, going to the grandchildren's many activities, and spending time at the lake. Steve was a true handyman and could fix just about anything. He worked on countless projects & enjoyed teaching his grandsons his knowledge. Steve and Deb enjoyed their annual trip to Las Vegas with their lifelong friends. Most weekends during the summer you could find Steve at the lake playing with the grandkids, grilling his delicious steaks, playing in bean bag tournaments, and fishing. An especially cherished memory is the annual 4th of July weeklong celebration which was filled with food & laughter, complete with a parade where Steve drove the 4-wheeler while Deb threw out candy to the grandkids. Steve was a big believer in working hard & playing harder. Steve's pride & joy were his 9 grandchildren, and you would often hear him talking about their activities & achievements.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of forty-six years, Deborah Fricke of Lakefield; three children, Mindy (Tim) Cook of Truman; Jeremy (Chelsey) Fricke of Lakefield; Tiffany (Adam) Lindley of Lakefield; nine grandchildren, Ethan and Levi Lindley, Jaiden, Tallin and Ashlyn Cook, Kailey, Ryan, Addison, and Jase Fricke; mother, Gladys Fricke of Round Lake; eight siblings, Carol (Dale) Bayerkohler of New Richland; Al (Delores) Fricke of Worthington; June (Randy) Howard of Ocheyedan, IA; Jane (Bob) Crist of Harris, IA; Diane (Bill Kramme) Hall of Lakefield; Norm (Clara) Fricke of Littleton, CO; Pat (Steve) Voss of Lakefield; Betty (Darvin) DeBerg of Heron Lake; and many nieces and nephews.
