Sylvia Lucille
Storm
Jul 6, 1928 — Dec 4, 2025
A Celebration of Life service to honor the life and legacy of Sylvia Storm, age 97, of Jackson, will be held at the United Methodist Church in Jackson on Monday, December 15th, at 10:30 AM, with a time of visitation and gathering from 9:30 – 10:30 AM. Burial will take place at Sunset Cemetery in Jackson.
Sylvia Lucille (Benes) Storm was born on July 6, 1928, in Jackson, Minnesota, to Vincent and Julia (Woodraska) Benes. She was the youngest of seven children. Sylvia attended Jackson schools and worked at the Minnesota Egg Corporation, Naturals, and later enjoyed handing out food samples at Gordy's Grocery Store. She lived the majority of her life in Jackson. Sylvia passed away on December 4, 2025.
Sylvia was united in marriage to Virgil Storm on January 12, 1946, in Windom, Minnesota, by Reverend H.W. Brill. Together, they farmed west of Jackson until Virgil's retirement in 1990. They were longtime members of Salem Lutheran Church, where they served faithfully as ushers, altar guild members, and greeters. Sylvia also volunteered at the local food shelf.
Sylvia and Virgil loved traveling and exploring different parts of the country. They spent many years enjoying trips in their camper—sightseeing, fishing, and visiting friends and family. Virgil bought Sylvia her own brand-new tractor and she was very proud of it; she loved farming alongside of him with it. Virgil passed away on February 20, 2014. They were married for 68 years.
Sylvia enjoyed reading, creative crafts, baking, and cooking. Her coffee pot was always on, ready for visitors. She and her sister, Mayme Cihak, were known for making endless batches of cookies and candies for holiday gift boxes. Together, they often baked and decorated birthday and wedding cakes. Sylvia also treasured making kolaches with her cousin, Bessie Schaffer. They would fill Bessie's freezer with fresh kolaches—much to the delight of friends and neighbors who "just happened to stop by" that day for coffee and warm treats.
Sylvia passed away peacefully on December 4th at the Good Samaritan Society in Jackson.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Mark Wachal; her granddaughter, Amber Minor; and her great-grandson, Zachary Minor, all of Camano Island, Washington. Sylvia is also survived by her sister-in-law, Martha (Loren) Ulbricht of Lakefield, Minnesota and her many beloved nieces and nephews.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil; her parents, Vincent and Julia Benes; her brothers, Bernard Benes and Ernest Benes; and her sisters, Lillian (Glen) Stough, Mayme (John) Cihak, Helen Benes, and Frances Benes.
The family would like to thank the Good Samaritan Home, Jackson MN, for their loving care and support of Sylvia.
