A Mass of Christian Burial for Terry Fredin, age 76 of Windom, will be held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Windom on Saturday, January 25th at 12:30 PM. Burial will be held at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Windom.

A visitation for Terry will be held on Friday, January 24th from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Windom. Visitation will continue on Saturday, January 25th, at the church, for one hour prior to the funeral mass, beginning at 11:30 AM.

Terry Lee Fredin was born November 15, 1947, in Spencer, Iowa to Vincent and Dorothy (Spiess) Fredin. He grew up in Rossie, Iowa, where his dad had a gas station, and Terry learned at a young age how to run the station. In high school, he was the pitcher for the high school baseball team. He was passionate about racing his go-cart, even down the streets of Rossie. Following high school, Terry attended Bemidji State University, graduating with a bachelor's degree in industrial technology. On June 14, 1969, Terry married Karen Schneider at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Springfield, Minnesota. The couple celebrated 55 years of marriage and were blessed with one daughter, Kris, and one son, Bill. Terry taught Industrial Tech in Truman, Minnesota, Mount Vernon, Iowa, and Waconia, Minnesota. In 1976, Terry and Karen moved to Windom to purchase the Our Own Hardware store. After the hardware store closed, Terry returned to teaching building trades. Terry also owned and operated Fredin Construction with his son Bill.

Terry was a generous supporter of his community and received the Mayor's Medal of Honor in 1997. Among other things, he was active as a member of the Windom Park and Rec Commission, Boy Scout leader, Jaycee member, cemetery sexton and taught religion classes with Karen. His passion was racing, and he could always find a way to turn any conversation into that topic. He enjoyed playing, announcing and coaching hockey, and for over 20 years he was responsible for running hockey tournaments in southern Minnesota.

Family was very important to Terry, and he was a great husband, dad, grandpa and great grandpa. He loved history and sharing stories with everyone at family and at class reunions. He loved playing cards, and he enjoyed visiting with family, friends and could even carry a conversation with strangers. His parents owned a cabin on Lower Trelipe Lake near Longville, Minnesota, where many family memories were made. He and Karen enjoyed taking camping trips, and his favorite was always to the Black Hills of South Dakota. Terry's favorite pastimes were camping, golfing, racing and hockey.

Terry died unexpectedly at Windom Area Health on November 7, 2024, from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident, at the age of 76 years.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Karen; children, Kris (Gary) Vipond of Battle Lake and Bill (Dawn) Fredin of Windom/McMillan, MI; grandchildren, Christian (Catelyn) Schuck, Jenn (Brock) Tillma, Steph Vipond and Madyson Fredin; great-grandchildren, Axel and Wylder Schuck and Benson Tillma; sister, Ginger Vander Esch; sisters-in-law, Marge (Al) Eichten and Judi (Neil) Gehrt; as well as many other friends and family.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Vince and Dorothy Fredin; stepmother, Myrtle Fredin; parents-in-law, Frank and Ruth Schneider; sister, Eloise Clark, and her husband Lyal Clark.
