Obituary

Velma was born on May 10, 1923 at home in Amboy Township, Cottonwood County, Minnesota to F.H. (Herman) and Vina Mae (Wright) Polzin. On July 1, 1923, Velma was baptized at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jeffers and later confirmed in that same church on April 19, 1936. She attended country school, later graduating from Windom High School in 1941. Velma was united in marriage to Dale L. Mann on January 23, 1942, at The Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom. Their union was blessed with four children. They farmed south of Mountain Lake, then near Bingham Lake and the family farm before moving into Windom in 1948 at which time they partnered with Howard and Evelyn Sharkey in Sharkey & Mann. The partners and families moved to Rapid City, SD in 1958. Velma worked side by side with Dale during their marriage, owned and managed motels and later Clean-Rite Products, Inc. before returning to the family farm in Windom in 1984 after the death of Dale's brother, George. From 1993 until 2008 they lived in Rapid City and Arizona with family until moving to Remick Ridge in Windom. They enjoyed wintering in Arizona and traveling with family and friends through the years. Velma was a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom. She also was a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML). Velma cared for infants waiting for adoption with Lutheran Social Services of SD; enjoyed bowling, crocheting, crossword puzzles and reading but most of all being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Velma received her crown of life, on December 21, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Society-Sogge Memorial in Windom at the age of 87 years. Velma is survived by her husband of 68 years, Dale of Windom; son, (Rev.) Donald (Nancy) of Ft.
