Obituary

On Sunday, June 14, 2020 Verlan G. Ray, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at the age of 78. Verlan was born on October 18, 1941 in Windom, MN to Clifford and Adeline (Wildfeuer) Ray. He received his education in the Windom Public Schools, graduating in the Class of 1959. On October 27, 1962 he married Judi Oddson at the United Methodist Church in Windom. They raised one amazing son and had a better one a few years later, Chad and Marty. Verlan worked for the Toro Company for 43 years and retired in 2003 he was also a charter member of the Windom Lions Club. Verlan took pride in raising horses and numerous other animals. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren and never turned down a game of cards. Verlan was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed playing, coaching, and watching softball. He loved to spend his afternoons at the Windom Country Club and always felt that he had solutions to the Minnesota Vikings yearly problems on the field. Those close to Verlan became accustomed to inside jokes, nicknames, and good-natured teasing. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious giggle and fun-loving spirit. Verlan is survived by his wife Judi of Windom; sons, Chad and his wife, Jami of Brandon, SD; Marty and his wife, Cassie of Mankato; four grandchildren, Jackson, Ella, Mathea and Harper; two brothers, James and his wife, Julee of Cloquet, Larry and his wife, Anne of Medford, WI; 5 sisters, Eva Solem of Huron, SD, Karon Ray and her husband, John Aumer of Windom, Sharon Bretzman of Bingham Lake, Marilyn Brown and her husband, Wayne of Phoenix, AZ, Marsha Kolander of Jackson; sisters-in-law, Lorna Ray of Thatcher, AZ, and Evelyn Ray of Windom; many nieces,nephews and friends. Verlan was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Robert, Harvey, Eugene and Bruce Ray; infant sister, Phyllis, sister, Lois Petron; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Marjorie Ray, Don Solem, Randy Kolander, Marvin Bretzman and Robert Petron.
