On December 8, 2024, at the age of 76, Virgil LeRoy Schuerman left this world for his heavenly home, surrounded by his family. Virgil was born on October 23, 1948, to Ervin and Viola Schuerman of Danvers, Minnesota. He grew up on a dairy and grain farm along with his three siblings. Virgil attended grade school in Danvers and graduated high school from Benson, Minnesota. He then attended and graduated from the University of Minnesota, Morris with a degree in economics. Virgil married his high school sweetheart Marlene Rasmussen on November 4, 1967, and the couple enjoyed 57 years of marriage. Three daughters were born to the marriage: Lisa, Kari, and Kelly. Virgil joined the Army National Guard in 1969 and served in the Reserves for six years. He worked as an ag loan officer in Windom from 1977 through his retirement in 2017. He considered his customers to be good friends.
Virgil was a devoted husband and father who loved being with his family. His nicknames at home were "Mr. Man" and "Papa Bear". His favorite hobby was photography, with wildlife as his focus. He particularly liked grizzly bears, bull moose, and wild horses, and when they were not available, eagles, swans, or whatever else he could find would do as a subject. Virgil and Marlene often traveled west and liked to tent camp, hike, and see their many close friends that they made along the way.
He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Windom and had a strong faith in his Lord Jesus. He held various positions in the church, such as trustee, financial secretary, usher, and in the past years he helped Marlene decorate the church by toting boxes and ladders for her. In his last three months he became particularly vocal in his witness for Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Marlene and daughters, Lisa Solum (David Stinehelfer), Kari Schuerman, and Kelly (Mark) Sauder; brother, Lavern (Mary) Schuerman; sister, Jean (Jerome) Goff, brothers-in-law, David (Patty) Rasmussen and Richard (Karen) Rasmussen; along with his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Ervin Schuerman; mother, Viola Schuerman; and brother, Clint Schuerman.
