Obituary

A Mass of Christian Burial for Bill Ascheman, age 89 of Jackson, will be held at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Jackson at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 28th, with a time of visitation and gathering from 10:00 – 11:00 AM. Burial will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Cemetery in Jackson.

William "Bill" Ascheman was born on December 5, 1935, at home in Wisconsin Township, to Joe and Esther Ascheman.

On November 29, 1958, Bill married Judy Schroeder in St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. They were blessed with four children: Ken, Joe, Jim, and Penny.

In high school, Bill hauled milk for Farmers Co-op creamery in Jackson. After high school, Bill hauled livestock for Webster Livestock. He also worked for Schlager Corn Shelling, hauling corn with his own straight truck.

Bill worked for Dick Untiedt at Hormels in Jackson. Bill and Alan Bratrud delivered Christmas gifts for the post office. He also hauled fuel for Vet's Oil Company, as well as snow removal for many years. His true passion and his lifetime job was farming. His favorite part of farming was combining beans.

Bill served in the Minnesota National Guard for over ten years. He was a member of the Catholic Church in Jackson for his entire lifetime.

In his spare time, he enjoyed shooting his guns and participating in cowboy shoots with friends. Bill enjoyed watching westerns and "Gunsmoke" was his favorite. Bill and Judy loved to play 500 in many card clubs. In his retirement days, he loved to ride his Ranger around checking the crops.

Bill passed away peacefully on July 19th, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Lakefield, Minnesota.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Judy Ascheman; children, Ken (Lisa) Ascheman of Blaine, Joe Ascheman of Jackson, Jim (Dawn) Ascheman of Jackson, and Penny Ascheman (Bill Jensen) of Vermillion, SD; five grandchildren, Kaleb, Kallie Jo and Kolton Ascheman of Blaine, MN, Matt (Elizabeth) Ascheman of Rushmore, MN, Alec (Adrianna) Ascheman of Dunnell, MN; one great granddaughter, Ava Ascheman; sister-in-law, Karen Ascheman, and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Esther; sister, Carmen Skophammer; brother Everett Ascheman; parents-in-law, Alvin and Opal Schroeder; and special friend Roy Rosenbaum.

Bill will be remembered for his strong work ethic and deep love for his family.
