A Celebration of Life Service to honor the life and legacy of William A. Eigenberg Jr. age 90, of Windom, will be held Friday, March 7th at 10:00 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church in Okabena. A private family burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in rural Okabena, with full military honors provided by Sievert-Peterson American Legion Post 608 of Okabena.

A visitation for Bill will be held on Thursday, March 6th from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at LaCanne Family Celebration of Life Center in Windom. Visitation will continue on Friday, March 7th at St. John's Lutheran Church in Okabena for one hour prior to the service, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM. The service will be live streamed on the church's YouTube Channel.

William "Bill" August Eigenberg Jr. was born on July 18, 1934, in Springfield Township, Cottonwood County, Minnesota, to the late William, Sr and Augusta (Toltzin) Eigenberg. He was baptized on September 9, 1934, and confirmed on May 16, 1948, at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Okabena. Bill lived the majority of his life on the family farm in rural Heron Lake. He attended Elementary at the rural country school in Springfield Township, Cottonwood County, just steps away from his home and graduated from Heron Lake High School in 1952. Bill served in the United States Army from 1957 - 1959 and served in the Army Reserves until 1963 when he was honorably discharged. After his military service, Bill returned home to follow in his father's legacy working the land and tending animals on the farm until his retirement in 1998.

On February 10, 1963, Bill was united in marriage to Carolyn Ihrke at Amo Methodist Church in rural Storden. The marriage was blessed with three children Dawn, Gwen and Kevin. After living most of his life on the family farm, Bill and Carolyn moved to Windom in 2018.

As a lifelong member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Bill served as a trustee and on the Cemetery Board. He also served on the Springfield Township Board. Bill appreciated the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, boating and camping. He also enjoyed grilling outdoors and you could often find him next to his Weber grill. He and Carolyn enjoyed polka music and square dancing. Bill also enjoyed many years with his children and grandchildren celebrating life during holidays and special events.

Bill became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society Sogge Memorial Nursing Home in September 2024. He recently became ill with pneumonia and passed away peacefully on February 27, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

Left to cherish his life and legacy are his wife of 62 years, Carolyn of Windom; three children, Dawn Eigenberg of Windom, Gwen (Troy) Post of Brewster, and Kevin (Jackie) Eigenberg of Brandon, SD; five grandchildren, Erika (Michael) Spampinato, Austin (Caitlin) Eigenberg, Jacob (Mandy) Post, Eric (Kathryn) Eigenberg, Matthew (Hannah) Eigenberg; one great-grandchild, Marshall Eigenberg; sister, Giesela Kuehl; sisters-in-law, Lylas Eigenberg, Clarice Vennix and Leatrice Scott; brothers-in-law, Richard (Margaret) Ihrke, Mike (SueAnn) Ihrke and Rusty Christopherson and many nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William and Augusta Eigenberg; brothers, Herbert (Barb) Eigenberg, and Herman Eigenberg; brother-in-law, Kornell Kuehl; parents-in-law, Emil and Elsie Ihrke; sisters-in-law, MaryAnne (John) Holsen, Barbara Eigenberg, Sharmen Christpherson; and brother-in-law, David Vennix.
